Come and join Ray Johnson for this Free Film Show on the last Sunday of every month through to the end of October. Each screening features archive of Spode over the past century - from different periods and different perspectives. This week features developments at Spode through the Great Depression of the 1930s in "Clay, Hands and Fire" - showing how social and technological changes influenced working practices, how the firm was influenced by new designs of ware and surface pattern. Robert Copeland gives a running commentary along with Ceramic Historian Gordon Elliott. The second film "Pottery Ladies" looks at 1930s design - particularly Art Deco - which gave paintresses great freedom in contrast to the more traditional paper/transfer printing of the time. We see their working conditions and get first-hand insight from a group of paintresses interviewed in 1984, remembering working for Clarice Cliff and Susie Cooper through the 30s - their lively banter and personal memories are very engaging and bring the whole period to life.

Spode's "Little Village Tea Room" will be open for drinks and food before and after the film show, which will finish at 3.00pm.
