A Night Out in Longton
£10.00
A lively compilation of films and reminiscences of good nights out in the old days. We start with a celebration of Jollees nightclub with audience members and performers – with special appearances by Mel Scholes, bandleader John Simons, illusionist Van Buren and filmmaker Charles Plant.
Then we’re off to the pictures, with features on The Broadway, The Empire and Alhambra cinemas. Then there’s a night out at a dance in Longton Town Hall in the 1940s, followed by film of the campaign to save the Town Hall from demolition in the 1980s – led by future Lord Mayor Ellis Bevan.
We finish with dramatic films of the end of The Alhambra by demolition - and The Empire by fire in 1992. 40 min
