Memories, Memorabilia and Milestones

This video, through recorded memories, photographs, archive film and memorabilia - together with scale models built by enthusiasts - brings to life the colour and contrasts of this unique railway - the first to be built in England in accordance with the Light Railways Act of 1896. The line provided an aletrnative form of transport to the market town of Leek for the isolated communities of the Staffordshire Moorlands, and was popular with excursionists, but freight traffic never reached the high expectations of its prospectus. Here we see unique film of the "toy train" going through the valleys, and climb aboard for a final ride in its year of closure - 1934. The route of the line is now a popular walking and cycling trail through the Manifold Valley.
