This is a complete film, Activities of Stoke-on-Trent City Corporation”, restored by Ray Johnson - with its original titles throughout.

The film was made in response to Stoke-on-Trent being granted City Status in 1925 by George V (newsreel of this occasion is on “Stoke-on-Film, 1900-1930”).

Activities, facilities and locations are shown throughout the Potteries. Professionally produced, the fine quality sequences show fascinating detail.

The film covers:- Health Department (maternity and child welfare), Cleansing and Refuse Departments, Stanfield Sanatorium, Engineer & Surveyor’s Department (housing, roads, traffic and parks), Sewage Department, Gas Department, Fire Department, Constabulary, Museums, Electricity Department, Education Department.

In additional, there is the original newsreel of June 5th 1925 showing the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Stoke - during which, in a speech in the King's Hall, the King conferred the title and status of City upon the County Borough of Stoke-on-Trent. This was the very day that Stoke became a city. The Mayor's full title of "Lord Mayor" was to be achieved in 1928.
