This is a compilation of three films about the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Newcastle-under-Lyme, 1173-1973: This film was made as part of the Borough’s Octocentenary celebrations. It uses music and illustrations relevant to each age of the town’s development. We investigate why there was a castle here, and where it was. We chart the growth of its trades and markets, the decline of the castle and its importance on the trading routes. The main theme is finding visual clues to the towns past in the Borough today.

Newcastle-under-Lyme, 1984: this is a review of developments in the Borough in the mid-1980s. We chart the growth of local amenities and future possibilities are discussed by councillors, traders and historians – and the issue of maintaining the town’s character while moving with the times.

Newcastle-under-Lyme Today: this is a recent review of current developments in the Borough, including a look at Kidsgrove, surrounding villages and tourist attractions.
