Arnold Bennett 150th Anniversary – THE CARD (1952)

The most popular of all the screen adaptations of Bennett and starring Alec Guinness, Glynis Johns, Valerie Hobson and Petulia Clarke. Shown under special Licence. Plus promotional memorabilia and sidelights on the filming locally - and we hope to have a member of the film's cast with us for the occasion.

To support the cost of screening the programme of feature films from Bennett books, Staffordshire Film Archive is launching a set of £5 DVDs at this event featuring various aspects of Bennett's work. These include The Making of The Card - including scenes of the local filming in Middleport and the film’s Premiere at the Odeon in Hanley with the stars present.

Alec Guinness came and filmed here... Yes - the great Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars once strode the cobbled streets of Middleport!

All welcome.

Ray Johnson, Director, Staffordshire Film Archive
